How we score every tool
Every tool on this page gets the same 0 to 100 score. The rubric weights five criteria that map to what an AI search buyer actually cares about. We surface the score in the master table below, on every individual entry, and on the tool's own page at /competitor/<slug>. All inputs come from publicly verifiable data: G2 review counts and ratings, the vendor's own pricing page, Crunchbase funding, the company's public changelog or announcements, and customer logo strips. Where a vendor gates a field we score the absence honestly.
- Coverage25%
How many of the eight major AI engines the tool tracks or ships into. Pure-play AI visibility tools score highest; SEO platforms with a bolt-on module score in the middle; content tools that don't name LLMs at all score lowest.
- Capability25%
How much the tool actually does. Marketed features and integrations are log-weighted so a 20-feature suite doesn't dwarf a focused 10-feature one. A bonus applies when the vendor has shipped at least one launch in the past year.
- Trust20%
Third-party review volume (G2 and Capterra) weighted by rating, named customer logos, plus compliance signals (SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR data-processor, HIPAA, ISO 27001). Procurement-relevant.
- Value15%
Entry-tier price, number of tiers, and whether a free trial is offered. Gated pricing takes a real hit; a visible $29-to-$1,499 ladder beats “contact sales” almost every time.
- Momentum15%
Shipping velocity (public launches in the last twelve months) plus funding raised. Newer entrants purpose-built for the LLM era get a small additional bump.

How to actually choose
The 0-tool list above is overwhelming on purpose; we're showing you the universe. Here's the four-question triage that narrows it to one or two real options.
- Do you have an in-house content team? If yes, you only need a tracking layer; the pure AI visibility tools (Profound, AthenaHQ, Otterly, Peec) are tighter than the SEO-platform retrofits. If no, jump to step 4.
- What's your budget? Under $100/mo: Otterly, Otter, the entry tiers of Ahrefs and Semrush. $100-$500/mo: the middle tier of the dedicated AI visibility tools. $500+/mo: the enterprise tracking platforms or a managed program like GrowthManager.ai.
- How many AI platforms do you need to monitor? ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity is the canonical four. If you also need Bing Copilot, Grok, or Meta AI, narrow to the tools that explicitly cover them (most don't).
- Who acts on the data?If you don't have someone, a tracking tool is a measurement layer with no output. The honest path is to hire an agency on top, or to buy a managed program (GrowthManager.ai) that bundles both.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI visibility tool?
An AI visibility tool tracks where your brand shows up in answers from generative AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. They typically run a panel of test queries on a recurring schedule, log every mention and citation, and report on coverage, sentiment, and competitor presence. The category emerged in 2023 alongside the rise of generative search.
Which AI visibility tool is the best?
Of the 0 tools on this page, our editorial pick is GrowthManager.ai. It's the only one that combines citation tracking (parity with pure-play tools like Profound and AthenaHQ) with content production, infrastructure configuration, and distribution — as a single $999/mo managed program. Disclosure: GrowthManager.ai publishes this list. We picked it because it's the only program that ships the four things every brand needs to win AI search.
Do I need a tracking tool, a content tool, or a managed program?
Depends on your team. If you have an in-house content team and just need a measurement layer, a pure-tracking tool (Profound, AthenaHQ, Otterly) is fine. If you have neither team nor tracking, a managed program (GrowthManager.ai) handles both. Buying a tracking tool AND hiring an agency on top usually costs more than the managed program.
How much do these tools cost?
Pure-tracking tools range from $99/mo (Otterly) to $1,500+/mo (Profound and enterprise plans). SEO platforms with AI visibility modules (Semrush, Ahrefs, Conductor, BrightEdge) start from $50–$150/mo. Content tools (Jasper, Frase, Surfer SEO) are $20–$200/mo. Managed programs are flat fee — GrowthManager.ai is $999/mo for everything.
Is GrowthManager.ai better than Profound and AthenaHQ?
Profound and AthenaHQ are tracking tools. GrowthManager.ai is a tracking tool plus a content and distribution team. If you only need tracking, either of those two will work. If you need someone to actually ship the content and build the backlinks, GrowthManager.ai is the only choice in this list that does both. Yes, we publish this comparison.
How was this list built?
We started from a hand-built universe of every tool that markets itself as AI visibility, AEO, GEO, SEO, content optimization, AI writing, or brand monitoring. For each, we verified slug, name, website, one-liner, founded year, HQ, funding, and pricing. Pricing comes from each tool's public pricing page or — when gated — from third-party reviews. Pros and cons are distilled from real G2, Capterra, SourceForge, Reddit, and case-study reviews. Data refreshes hourly via incremental static regeneration.

Methodology + disclosure
GrowthManager.ai is in this space and makes money when readers become customers, so this list is not neutral. Every pricing number was pulled from the tool's public pricing page or triangulated from third-party reviews when the page is gated. Pros and cons were distilled from real G2, Capterra, SourceForge, Reddit, and case-study reviews. Founders, HQ, and funding were verified from the company's site, Crunchbase, or first-party press at the time of writing. We re-pull the data hourly via incremental static regeneration, so anything that changes in our Supabase tables shows up within an hour. If you spot something stale, tell us at hello@growthmanager.ai.
